THE CLIENT
Our client is among the select few corporations tasked with ensuring milk industry quotas are met while delivering high-quality milk products to customers nationwide.
This leading manufacturer was faced with the challenge of maximizing storage space in conjunction with their FIFO requirements* and their unique product dimensions.
*FIFO stands for ‘First In, First Out’ and is a method used in inventory management and accounting to ensure that the oldest inventory items (the first ones put in) are the first to be used, sold, or dispatched. This is particularly important in our client’s industry where its products have a limited shelf life.
THE CHALLENGE
The client was incurring prohibitive costs for outsourced storage because their own facility was underutilized. The available height wasn't being used effectively, and much of the product was just sitting on the floor, taking up valuable space.
Our review process at Meriton involves a deep dive into the challenges our clients experience not only in terms of storage efficiency but also for operational efficiency, so we went away and drew up a suitable solution.
THE SOLUTION
We created a custom hybrid solution using double deep racking. This allowed the client to store both totes and pallets. This solution not only drastically cut down transport and storage costs but also made it much easier for the client to track and manage their inventory.
THE IMPLEMENTATION PROCESS
For this installation, we faced very limited space in the warehouse because operations were ongoing. We had a small area to stage materials, so everything else had to be prepared offsite.
All the assembly was done offsite and brought in just in time for installation. This required a highly efficient process to meet the client's needs. One major benefit we offered on this project was our in-house expertise at Meriton, handling everything from engineering and inspections to site management, installs, logistics, and project management
THE RESULTS
Our custom storage solution led to a 260% increase in storage capacity. This significant boost resulted in a greatly increased return on investment for the client. Additionally, employee satisfaction improved due to better working conditions, including wider aisles and easier access to products.
